Letter from Vanguard Management
Dear Vanguard Client:

The Maryland Legislature is seeking to apply the six percent (6%) sales tax to a broad array of services not previously subject to sales tax – including the services that community management companies provide. The attached HB1051, introduced by 2 Montgomery County Delegates, seeks to require sales taxes to be paid on thirty (30) additional services, including “A Real Property Management Service” as well as, among other things, day to day activities such getting a haircut, using an agency to get a job, pest control (exterminating), getting your car washed, pay parking lots, and notary services.

Specifically relating to your Association, this bill would increase your cost of community management, as well as the costs of many other services, by six percent (6%) effective January 1, 2013

I would encourage you to contact the Delegates on the House Ways & Means Committee as well as your local Senators and Delegates and let them know your opposition to this legislation. The public hearing before the Ways & Means Committee is on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.

Regards,
Craig Wilson

Residents worry about speeding on new stretch of Father Hurley in Germantown
Aug. 8 was a day of celebration in Germantown, as the 17-year saga to complete Father Hurley Boulevard culminated with a ribbon cutting and opening of the road’s final portion — a 1.2-mile segment from Wisteria Drive to state Route 118/Germantown Road. The four-lane road and extension will provide Germantown residents with easier access to points of interest, including Germantown Town Center and Interstate 270. It includes a bridge over the CSX railroad tracks, an 8-foot-wide bike path, a 5-foot-wide sidewalk and street lighting. ((Continue))
